Mmmmm, Blackened Basilisk kebabs…yummy.

So it’s not just tailoring I wish I had begun to level a long time back, cooking is something I should have done from the start too! It must be said that the only thing I really need it for is food which increases Dirky’s spell damage. I can collect the meat for this food easily, in fact I grind on the Basilisks in Terokkar Forest when I am doing a soul shard run. I get soul shard and plenty of the meat for the [Blackened Basilisk] recipe, trouble is I then have to send it to another ‘guildy’ in order for them to cook it for me and send it back, hassle for them and hassle for me.

So I’ve started leveling my cooking skill, I’ll probably have to increase my fishing skill soon too, both go hand in hand at higher skill levels, it must be said that I don’t enjoy fishing very much, it requires you to stare at the screen without so much as blinking in case you miss the bite! makes my eyes bleed too :)

All praise the Phoenix God…

Or Al’ar as he is more commonly known. Yes thats right I had my first stab, or rather shadow bolt, at Al’ar last night on our guild outing to Tempest Keep, The Eye.
The guild have had one go at him previous but I was unable to attend that time. It’s not a bad fight once you get the hang of it, it’s probably fairly tough for the tanks and healers on the first phase but for casters and ranged dps it’s just give it all you’ve got on the first phase.
The second phase begins when you kill him and as all good phoenix do he rises from the ashes to start again, only this time he’s not airborn but comes down to ground level to give you grief and hurl several meteors etc at you. We managed to get him down to 44% when the adds begun to respawn and we decided to call it a night.

I think if we have another go at it soon we should be able to take him down. I dont think the High Astromancer Solarian will be too far behind but the mighty Kael’thas Sunstrider is another story! Perhaps we will take a detour to SSC at that stage :)

Recent happenings?

Well not a great deal to report recently. Last Sunday we had a great run on Void Reaver. We had the mobs down leading up to him and VR down himself in just over 1 hour. Fecking orbs are still very nasty, I don’t care what anybody says, although I lived through the encounter this time.

Since then I’ve been in Kara to help out on Netherspite and Nightbane  and over the last few nights I’ve been grinding some honour in the battlegrounds. Tonight I missed out on the Gruul run by about 5 minutes, so I did some more BG’s and that’s that folks.

Finally another stab at Gruul.

My iMac finally came back from repair, even though it’s only been away a week I have missed it. A new logic board has been fitted only snag is the numpty’s forgot to re-enter my serial number to the new board, so the system profile shows something  ‘Serial Number:    SystemSerialNumb’ instead of my proper serial number! /sigh.

Anyway, I managed to get in to my second only try at Gruul with the guild last night, I got this nice belt [Belt of Divine Inspiration] from High King Maulgar but sadly did not have enough DKP to outbid  Chixor for the [Bloodmaw Magus-Blade]. Well done Chixor, you have been waiting longer than I have for it :)

Just put a couple of gems in my belt, nothing too fancy for now until I have much more gold.

Are those crisps nice?

(Or how not to set your vox level in Teamspeak!)

Guilds often use a speech conference system called Teamspeak or Ventrillo to co-ordinate their raids. It’s pretty much essential to help the raid leader instruct the other raid members. All members connect to a Crispsserver using a small client program on their PC or Mac, everything they then say in to their microphone is relayed to all other connected clients.

Sounds great and it usually is except when some people use a feature called vox which sets the microphone to transmit on their speech and they also have the threshold for transmit set too low.

What happens then is everytime they breath, burp, munch on crisps or have a parrot or budgie in the background tweeting, this is then sent to all others connected to the Teamspeak or Ventrillo server, most annoying. The matter is further compounded when some people do not use headphones! What happens now is that anything any user says is echoed back to Teamspeak and creates unwanted echo!

Thankfully this setting can be changed to PTT (push to talk) or the level of vox trigger can be adjusted so it only operates when they speak, not when they breath!

So please check your vox settings and have a thought for the other people in the raid who must always listen to you eating and tweeting :)

Not much WoW for a few days…

After last nights guild run to Void Reaver and our subsequent ‘downing’ of him, albeit after about the 5th attempt, this morning I had to send my 17″ iMac back to Apple (or rather one of their repair companies, Amsys) to hopefully have the video corruption problem I have been seeing sometimes fixed.

The problem is very annoying when it happens and makes the computer unusable until a reboot. The video corruption only occurs after the iMac has been running for at least 2 weeks, so there is little chance they will be able to reproduce the problem in the repair shop! I have sent them links to the pictures on my flickr site so they have no excuse to return it as NFF, no fault found.

So for now I have blown the dust off my old Mac mini and set that up. It’s no use for playing WoW so the only chance I’ll have will be on one of the kids PC’s upstairs, assuming I can kick them off :)

Dirky is 1 year old Today!

/sigh, yes my undead warlock Dirky is 1 year old today. Thats right a full year has past since I decided I wanted to ‘roll’ a warlock.
During that time I have been logged in for 36 days 55min and 52 seconds. Of which time I have spent 8days 22min and 4 seconds at level 70.
