Void Reaver down again.

Sunday night saw what’s becoming the guilds regular Tempest Keep ’session’. We got to Void Reaver in good time and took him down without too much incident. I died this time when he was about 3%, damn! We then moved on to High Astromancer Solarian. This was our first encounter apart from about 2 members I think.

High Astromancer SolarianI’d done a small amount of reading up on this but as usual it’s not until you are actually there that you can fully visualise what it is that the guides are trying to get through to you! The main part of the fight I guess is avoiding the Wrath of the Astromancer . This is a debuff that is applied at random. It deals damage to all around you, although the more people you are around at the time the less each person receives.  However when the timer runs out you are dealt about 7 to 8 thousand damage and thrown very high in to the air. When you land you don’t receive any more damage but those near to you will take a good deal of damage, so basically run away from your group when you get this debuff! There are some other stages to the fight but they mainly involve being in a very tight group with your raid members.

We had about 3 or 4 attempts and then the group started to disband. I think now many of have seen this encounter we shall do much better next time.

Watch this space.

What ya been up to Dirky?

Well, nothing major of note. I was prompted by my Son Bbcone, although we usually call him Morgan round the house, that I had a stash of Spirit Shards in the bank and I could exchange these for a meta gem, [Swift Starfire Diamond] so off I went and grabbed my shiny new gem. I had a meta socket in my helm but in order to use this I had to ensure I had 2 x yellow gems and 1 x red gem. A quick trip to the auction house and I had my gems sorted and all socket bonuses.

I’ve been trying to get my enchanting up slowly as and when I can, picking up any new enchants on the way. Weapon enchants are always popular and when I saw [Formula: Enchant Weapon - Crusader] on the auction house I was tempted but at 150g I decided to pass for now. Which then got me asking in guild chat where it drops… A trip to a tower in Western Plaguelands and about 2 hours of grinding revealed nothing but several stacks of runecloth, some healing pots and 2 or 3 gold. The drop rate is very low and I decided to call it a day.

The next day my Son informed me he had bought it off somebody for me, for 95 gold, awww thats nice I thought, then came the shout; “you owe me 95 gold dad!” pah thanks Son!  Still it saves me going back to that place and wasting time trying to farm it.

On my way to 70 I spent several levels questing in Nagrand, such a nice, bright, sunny place. I didn’t do many quests in  Shadowmoon Valley so I’ve started a few in that area recently. As I didn’t get in to the Gruul’s Lair guild run last night I made a few gold and other items working through a few quest lines instead.

Void Reaver hit the deck!

Void Reavers HeadYes, on our second attempt the big guy went down! I avoided dying on the ‘Orbs’ but did die a couple of times on the lead up to them!

Those damn orbs are so annoying! You can go for 2 or 3 mins without getting one on you, then you can get 2 or 3 in a row! It was close for me sometimes, I had to use 1 health pot, 1 healthstone and a couple of bandages to stay alive from the blast waves that the orbs make. Congratulations on the Tier 5 drops, Zombiedude won the bid for [Pauldrons of the Vanquished Hero] and Osastopomo won [Pauldrons of the Vanquished Defender].

A good time was had by all I think!

Banish ‘lock, BANISH FFS!

BanishAhh those fond words, I have heard them a few times. Banish is an ability that Warlocks have which is cast on either Elementals or Demons, once affected by the spell they are removed from the battle for up to 30 seconds. They cannot take damage nor deal any.

Sounds simple huh? Unfortunately it is not always as simple as that:

Firstly banish is a 1.5 second cast, it’s also easily interruptible, this makes the cast time often longer and of course if the mob hitting you whilst you are trying to cast is of a high level and hits hard, you can die at this stage.

Next, its only effective at a 30 yard range. So firstly you have to get fairly close to start the cast of banish and the mob you are banishing must remain in 30 yard range of you whilst you cast. Often the mob will begin running for some party member taking it out of range and making the warlock casting the banish have to run after it, stop in range and start the 1.5 second cast again.

The banish spell is not 100% effective either. The mob you are casting it on can be immune to the banish or it can ‘come out’ of banish too soon. The normal banish period is 30 seconds but sometimes the mob may be free after as few as 10 seconds. This means you have to catch up with the mob again and try to re-banish it.

So, next time you go screaming at your friendly warlock in your group, Banish ‘lock, BANISH FFS! remember some of the above points… please :)

Void Reaver or ‘big huge robot dude’

Void ReaverI went on my first guild outing last night to see if we could take him down. To cut a long story short we managed to get him to 3%! So close. We had a couple of wipes and ran out of the room to reset a couple of times but damn, we were so close on the last attempt! Hopefully next time he will drop!

How to record your equipment over time?

I’m a bit of a nostalgia freak and like to look back on things, like old screenshots of my first Tauren Warrior or the opening of the Dark Portal - see below.

Now I have reached 70 on my Warlock Dirky, I’d like to take a snapshot every now and again of my equipment and stats.
I could write all this down and take a screenshot of my Character info screen ingame but this is messy and I will probably not end up doing it regularly.

Do you know of something that will achieve this simple task?

Answers on a postcard to WoW Dad, or just leave a comment below :) Thanks!

‘Old School’ Scholomance!

I’ve now got all the imbued netherweave I need for my [Frozen Shadoweave Robe] and I couldn’t face the long grind for the motes that I need so I decided to do the quests to get the key to an old pre TBC (The Burning Crusade) instance called Scholomance. To be honest there had been some AHIF guild members in there this week and some talk of it in ‘guild chat’ inspired me to do it.

ScholomanceThere are a few quests which take you from the Western Plaguelands to Tanaris to Un’Goro and back to the Western Plaguelands, these were pretty easy at level 70 but I can imagine they would be a different story at level 58 or even 60. At the end you get a key called the Skeleton Key which opens the doors to Scholomance. I’d not been back to Un’Goro for several months so it was nice to have a ride round, even managed to take out a couple of Alliance whilst traveling through.

Whilst in the area I thought I’d just check the key worked, it did, I cleared most of the large first room and then decided to call it a night.

Finally!

At last I managed to get my tailoring skill to the maximum available level of 375! From 370 to 375 was tough going, it would have been much harder if it was not for the kind generosity of some guild members, thanks guys, I owe you! So it’s a lot more grinding and expense now to get my mats together for my final shadoweave piece, the [Frozen Shadoweave Robe].

Over the last couple of nights I had another run through Karazhan with the guild too, the only thing of note that dropped for me was [Spectral Band of Innervation]. I also got enough Badges of Justice together to purchase a new off-hand item with increased spell damage, [Orb of the Soul-Eater], I’m sad to not be using my [Talisman of Nightbane] though, it looks so damn cool!

MagtheridonOh yes and I better not forget! We had a guild run to Magtheridon’s Lair last night. This is a 25 man raid instance and was the first time in there for most guild members. We had several wipes one of which was perhaps 80% my fault! We’d only just ran back in and I placed a Soulwell in rather a nasty spot! Almost right on top of one of the channelers, clicking on the channeler begins the encounter. Guess what? Somebody clicked to get a healthstone, the doors shut behind us and WIPE!
“Note to Self: Only place soulwells outside the gates” Sorry guys!

Anyway we managed to get some good practice in and hopefully will get him down soon.

A trip to Silithus.

My enchanting is up to 292, I find it very slow going and expensive to level up! I looked at what enchants I had this evening and thought I’d go and get some of the ones I have missed. Made a flight to Cenarion Hold in Silithus and purchased the forumlas for Lesser Mana Oil and Wizard Oil, whilst there I got a new tailoring recipe for a 20 slot bag - Enchanted Runecloth Bag.

Boosts and Enchants.

Just a few snippets of news to keep you up to date with recent happenings at WoW Dad HQ.
My Sons (70 Mage and 62 Hunter) and I have been boosting a good friend Cruk in Hellfire Ramparts. Mainly looking at getting some good drops for him and perhaps a little XP on the way. Cruk is a 64 Tauren Warrior but has been side tracked, he also has a 40 something Warlock and more recently is to be found working on leveling his 39 Hunter Tayn.

Tonight I tried different tactics from our last run and used my Succubus with her ’seduce’ ability, that and Bbcone’s polymorph helped remove 2 mob’s from the equation each pull. Camerons hunter was able to use freezing trap to help when things got hectic. Cruk got some nice boots from the last boss, [Ironsole Clompers].

I’ve had my [Frozen Shadoweave Boots] enchanted with the vitality enchant and my new T4 gloves have been blessed with +15 spell damage.

One last thing, Blizzard were supposed to fix the USB headset big in todays patch, 2.3.2 , just tested it and it seems to work, nice one.
