If you have been involved with computers and the Internet for as many years as I have you will no doubt remember online games called MUD’s, or multi user dungeon, (or domain). These were text based adventure games where you took on the role of a character and could interact with other characters in the same game over the Internet. They required a great deal of patience and even more imagination but essentially this is where the MMORPG’s of today we see and play have their roots. Try telling some of the young players of today that you did much of what they are doing in only a text window 
It sure was a different kettle of fish killing a NPC or other player in only text!
