Farming at Dalsons Tears.

I just dug this photo up whilst looking for something else recently. It was drawn for a pre-play briefing session held by my son (12) Bbcone for some farming we were doing at Dalsons Tears, just outside the Bulwark. We were either farming Argent Dawn rep or Runecloth or something else.Click on the image for a much larger view.  Some of the writing on the board:-

  • Warning - when poisen is on you keep away from the group players, HAZERDUS
  • Remember - Actual game play may vary. Can cause seazures, loss of sight
  • Several ‘Escape points’ are marked on the field.
  • Lets do this!
  • After pull, SoC I blizz (this is a bit hard to read)

It was fun at the time!

Arathi Basin for beginners :)

Arathi BasinSince the guild changed their raiding times (more about that soon), I’ve been doing some more PvP, hell I even repec’ed to SL/SL to hopefully improve my survival time. So what follows is a very detailed plan on how to win the Arathi Basin battleground. I hope you find it useful:-

1) Defend.
2) Defend.
3) Did I say defend?

Well thats about it. It seems that whenever I join an Arathi Basin BG there is a distinct lack of the above defense! Time and time again I see Horde players ride up to a flag, take the flag and then guess what….. they just mount up and ride off again in to the sunset.
About 20 seconds later a couple of Alliance ride up and capture that base. What on earth are the Horde thinking? Why do they just ride off after taking the base? I’m sorry but it really annoys me.

Have you noticed this behavior in AB? Or are you one of these who just think you don’t have to bother with defense?

Where do you ‘park your Bank Character?

Barclays Bank - MorecambeJust in case your not sure what I mean by that. A bank character or ‘alt’ (short for alternate), also known as an ‘auction house alt’ is another character you have which is used for extra bag and bank storage from your main character, and/or used for auction house bidding & selling.

If you are Horde then you have 4 possible places to park or keep your bank character:-

  1. Thunderbluff
  2. Orgrimmar
  3. Undercity
  4. Silvermoon City

I chose Thunderbluff to keep my level 5 hunter character at. I chose this location because the auction house, mailbox and bank are quiet. Granted they are not as quiet as the ghost town that is Silvermoon but I believe that the mailbox, bank and auction house are the closest together of the 4 locations. Undercity has the silly steps to contend with and Orgrimmar is just plain busy. I think Thunderbluff is a good location for a bank alt.

Size really does matter.

At least where your bags are concerned in WoW. Running out of bag space is something that happens to me a lot, either when I am grinding, questing or just getting a few soul shards together prior to a raid. So, when I heard about the chance to pick up an easy 20 slot bag of course I jumped at it.

The bag in question is [Tattered Hexcloth Sack] and you get it from the 10 man instance Zul’Aman, there are lots of details here about getting it but it basically entails you getting an invite to a raid spot that has cleared the early part of Zul’Aman up to the bear boss.

Last night I was listening on Teamspeak as 10 member of my guild were finishing off in ZA so I kindly asked if I could get an invite to the raid as they were leaving. I’d already positioned myself right outside ZA so once I got the invite I was in. I’ve not been in Zul’Aman before but I can tell you it looks very big, similar to Zul’Gurub which won’t come as a surprise. It took me a few minutes and some questions on TS before I was able to locate the map that you have to retrieve for the quest, then I dashed out and turned the quest in at the small gathering outside ZA. The reward is a nice 20 slot bag and some gold. I picked the next quest up, X Marks… Your Doom! and one of the other guild members was kind enough to escort me round in order to finish it, it requires you to visit 3 locations in ZA. Apparently there is no limit to how many people can ‘jump in’, do the quest and also get this huuge bag. Expect this to get nerfed sometime soon.

Are those crisps nice?

(Or how not to set your vox level in Teamspeak!)

Guilds often use a speech conference system called Teamspeak or Ventrillo to co-ordinate their raids. It’s pretty much essential to help the raid leader instruct the other raid members. All members connect to a Crispsserver using a small client program on their PC or Mac, everything they then say in to their microphone is relayed to all other connected clients.

Sounds great and it usually is except when some people use a feature called vox which sets the microphone to transmit on their speech and they also have the threshold for transmit set too low.

What happens then is everytime they breath, burp, munch on crisps or have a parrot or budgie in the background tweeting, this is then sent to all others connected to the Teamspeak or Ventrillo server, most annoying. The matter is further compounded when some people do not use headphones! What happens now is that anything any user says is echoed back to Teamspeak and creates unwanted echo!

Thankfully this setting can be changed to PTT (push to talk) or the level of vox trigger can be adjusted so it only operates when they speak, not when they breath!

So please check your vox settings and have a thought for the other people in the raid who must always listen to you eating and tweeting :)

Banish ‘lock, BANISH FFS!

BanishAhh those fond words, I have heard them a few times. Banish is an ability that Warlocks have which is cast on either Elementals or Demons, once affected by the spell they are removed from the battle for up to 30 seconds. They cannot take damage nor deal any.

Sounds simple huh? Unfortunately it is not always as simple as that:

Firstly banish is a 1.5 second cast, it’s also easily interruptible, this makes the cast time often longer and of course if the mob hitting you whilst you are trying to cast is of a high level and hits hard, you can die at this stage.

Next, its only effective at a 30 yard range. So firstly you have to get fairly close to start the cast of banish and the mob you are banishing must remain in 30 yard range of you whilst you cast. Often the mob will begin running for some party member taking it out of range and making the warlock casting the banish have to run after it, stop in range and start the 1.5 second cast again.

The banish spell is not 100% effective either. The mob you are casting it on can be immune to the banish or it can ‘come out’ of banish too soon. The normal banish period is 30 seconds but sometimes the mob may be free after as few as 10 seconds. This means you have to catch up with the mob again and try to re-banish it.

So, next time you go screaming at your friendly warlock in your group, Banish ‘lock, BANISH FFS! remember some of the above points… please :)
